I read on the internet that these vehicles have two relays for the fuel pump, located in the dash by the glove compartment. Apparently if you open up the relay, you might find cracked solder connections. Resolder the connections and it should be OK.

I had a similar issue with my 84... actually a couple times... First time was the carb and second time was the ECU (ECM).
