My VW Touran SE 2006 model suffered a total gearbox failure today. The car is 5 years, 5 months old, and has just 38,000 miles on the clock. My garage have informed me that the differential has fallen apart, and in the process, broken the casing of the gearbox and wrecked the internal components. The vehicle is out of warranty and beyond the 5 year "goodwill" repairs that garage usually extend. Repairs will cost £4,300. I'm now considering what options are available, but researching online, see that this is a common fault.
