I have a 2002/3 Cruze, and the noise in my car is the universal joint in the steering column, just inside the firewall, inside the car. I was told it could be replaced or I could live with it. G.

The noise in my little 2002 Cruze was found to be the universal joint in the steering column, just inside the cab near your foot pedals. I was told it's difficult to replace or just put up with it. Only audible off road.

Hi Sam, we have a similar sound, which I think is coming from the steering column, especially when braking it shudders - like the universal joint is loose - it has only done 75k.
What did yours end up being?

Hi, we have the same shudder in the steering column when braking; mechanic said it isn't dangerous and is universal in the steering column and difficult to replace.
Has anyone had this done or have any info about it? Would really like to get rid of the noise.

Hi Sam,
Get your mechanic to check the top strut bushes; just a thought as I've recently had a customer inform me that theirs have worn and produce a clunking noise.
Also... on another note, if anyone needs a Holden Cruze gearbox reconditioned, simply google "Holden Cruze Gearbox", and find our website Wakeline Automotive, we have reconditioned many many Cruze gearboxes, and can help with any enquiry.
