The exhaust manifold commonly cracks where the ports all join above the outlet flange. You usually have to remove the heat shield to see the area clearly.
Mine made the same noise, and I made the same changes. Come to find it that the timing chain tensioner had worn out and the noise was made by timing chain slack.
