2017 Vauxhall Insignia Elite Nav Grand Sport 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Modern, and good to drive

Faults:

Turbo, DPF, oil leak.

General Comments:

I like this Insignia, but it has had heavy use as a taxi the past few years.

Very smooth to drive with the automatic box, still has good performance and managing around 45 mpg on diesel.

Elite model has the lot - leather and all modern electronic features. Spacious inside, but not as noise suppressed as you might think - quiet on motorways, but actually a bit too noisy around town at lower speeds. Luggage area is massive.

Great looking car, this is the first of the new Insignia "B" models for 2017. Diamond cut alloys are very nice.

Not the best in its class, and has all the same problems of the old Insignia, but it is a very good car and value for money is the best in this range. If you need a cheaper priced large family/executive car, take a look at these.

2017 Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport Elite 1.6 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Stylish and underrated

Faults:

Bought it used, and I have had the car two years, put over 20K on it and nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

The newer Insignia is a fine car to look at from all angles. My Elite model is black with original alloy wheels and looks great, rear windows tinted. Never looks out of place even in an executive car park with BMW's and Mercedes next to it. Forget what the badge snobs say, this is a great car.

1.6 diesel is OK, performance is not the best but good enough for daily driving. You will get around 60 mpg taking it easy. I've heard the bigger diesel engine is better, similar economy and better performance. Even the smaller turbo charged 1.5 petrol engine is good while doing 50 mpg apparently. It seems as though just about any engine choice will suit most people who want a good daily driving experience, as well as economy.

Elite model has comfortable leather and electric everything. I love being in this car. Interior is smooth on the move and quiet enough for me. The car has all the modern features for phone pairing you would expect. Heated seats are great! Some people complain about the electronic button for a brake. I dislike it also, but really no big deal when you get used to it.

The car drives very well. I must admit I test drove a few cars before this, and they all drove a little better, including the more modern Ford Mondeo. But the Insignia was not far off. And was much cheaper to buy.

Overall the car is great value for money as a used buy. This newer generation Insignia from 2017 onwards is coming down in price also, it is amazing the quality and modernness from this car you can get for the money.

I was in one of these as a taxi a few weeks ago - sat in the back and found the rear headroom limited, but I am 6'2". Otherwise thought it was a nice car.

They are nice cars. The reviewer should stick to his 1.6 diesel if he wants 50 mpg though, the 1.5 petrol mentioned does not get near that figure. I have that engine and get 40 mpg at best. It is a smooth refined unit however, something diesels in this car will never be.

2017 Vauxhall Insignia SRi Vx-Line Nav 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I like it!

Faults:

Nothing so far, only had it a year, looked after car bought from a reputable dealer with full history.

General Comments:

First of the newer shape 2017 Insignia's. What a great looking car in SRi Vx-Line spec. Tinted windows, massive alloy wheels. Very sharp in white.

Inside is much the same, this is a much more advanced looking car than the previous Insignia. I would like to note however I could not care less about the digital features or smart phone pairing features, despite the polite but young enthusiastic salesman going on about them when I bought the car. I am getting old and just do not care, my car only has to look good, perform, be reliable, have a radio and comfortable seats and I am happy. I haven't changed my needs and wants in a car since the Vauxhall Cavalier days...

Anyways, this Insignia has a healthy amount of power for such a small engine, 1.5 petrol, turbo charged I believe. Slick manual transmission. Fast when you need it, and can still manage between 40 - 50 mpg, which makes it well worth considering over the diesels. And long term reliability out of petrol engines I have found better than diesels in previous cars, so let's hope this car is the same.

The car is nice to drive and the cabin is quiet and smooth. Would prefer a proper handbrake instead of the stupid button that a lot of cars have now, but hey I'll get used to it. Really my only complaint about an otherwise fine car. Tax and insurance have also been relatively affordable. In short the modern Insignia is well worth checking out if you want a good modern car that won't break the bank - a lot are on the used market right now for a reasonable price, considerably cheaper than this car's main rival the Ford Mondeo.

The 1.5 petrol engine does 38 mpg on average realistically, not 40 + like the diesels.

The newer Insignia is actually a touch less economical across the range of engines compared to the older model. Still a good car though.
