I also wonder where this idea of shoddy 1970s cars comes from. That has not been my experience. Our Dodges and Plymouths of the 1970s were really good cars, actually better than what was available in the 1980s and early 1990s. Our Slant 6 Plymouth Volares were good, dependable cars. Our Dodge Monaco was a really good car. And I am STILL driving a '71 Barracuda, '73 Charger, and '75 Charger alternately on a daily basis when the weather is nice. The '75 Charger is almost as quiet, smooth, and tight as my dad's 2007 Cadillac DTS. I don't know what shoddy 1970s cars other people drove, but they weren't the ones I drove.

These are the sales numbers from Consumer Reports as of November 13th (less than one month ago) GM is beating Toyota in sales huh? Gee, guess you better call Consumer Reports and tell them they are wrong... Oh but you quote them repeatedly so they couldn't be wrong now could they?
Yes the Ford F-150 and Chevy Siverado pickups are at or near the top of the list as they are widely used in fleets and as work vehicles, which GREATLY inflates their sales overall. It is good for Ford and GM as both are excellent trucks. The Camry STILL is the top for personal use cars though. Accord is second and there isn't even a GM car on the list!! But you claim they are beating Toyota!! I won't even talk about the "Top Selling" Fusion... you can see where that one ranks for yourself!
Plus GM's warranty is the same 5 years that Honda and Toyota now offer. The mileage is only useful if you drive way over the average to get to 100K miles in 5 years. For 90% of people it is essentially the exact same warranty, and since you like that 90% figure, you should understand that pretty well!
Plus GM is repaying the loans from the government with more loans from the government that they will still have to repay. Not sure why this is happening, but this is how it is going. They have paid nothing really, and probably won't ever pay it all back as they are not doing that great overall still.

Reports in national news media business sections for the past two months running has listed GM as having higher OVERALL sales (all lines) than Toyota. These figures are accurate and based on overall vehicle sales for October and November. Check the FACTS please. These can be easily verified by simply checking any major news business section on the Internet.

"10 Ford Fusion 148,045 128,381 20 +15.3."
Amazing! And people call this Fusion "top selling"? That's incredible! It's even outsold by Dodge! (Probably the worst manufacture of vehicles that are currently made today.) I can vouch for that though. When nearly every Fusion that I've seen is sitting on the dealer lot, I can see the low sales firsthand. I've even seen several Fusions for sale on the Certified-Used lot at my local Honda dealership! I guess they are selling quickly, back to the dealers that is!

Has anyone on here actually driven a Camry and likes how it drives looks etc? I like cars more to drive and enjoy vs so plain like buying a toaster. I like driving more enjoyment and do drive more than average.

What Consumer reports isn't the "facts"?? Look, I didn't do the research that went into this list, they did. Call them up and let them know they are incorrect why don't you. Two months running OBVIOUSLY has little affect on the ENTIRE YEAR for GM's poor sales as this top 10 list was released NOT EVEN A MONTH AGO. You check your facts. These are the rankings for most of 2009 and NOT ONE GM CAR IS ON THE LIST. Since we only have a few weeks left of 2009, I am thinking GM will still fail to make the top ten with any of their cars.
Again, a domestic lover looking at a small feat as a measure of overall success. 2 months to 10 is no feat and Toyota BY FAR has outsold any GM car in 2009 with the Camry AND Corolla. Plus this is only 2009. Toyota has buried GM every prior year since.... well longer than it really matters anyway.
I know it is tempting to look at small feats as major accomplishments when you are being defeated overall by the competition, but you are really stretching to say GM is a better seller based on the extremely short time they have edged out Toyota. Hmmmmm... maybe the 0% for 72 month deal has something to do with it, or perhaps any number of the other superior rebates and incentives GM HAS TO GIVE in order to make their sales on par with the competition. Just a thought!
I regularly see GM vehicles reduced in the $10's of thousands just to clear them off of lots. Not too long ago you could get a $32K Trailblazer for just over $19K with rebates and incentives. Of course you are going to beat everyone else when the deals are that insane!!
If, and I emphasize IF they continue to do well in 2010 them maybe they'll outsell the Fusion and squeak onto the top ten list. The Camry is a long way ahead of them though and I'd be pretty surprised to see any GM car outsell it.

Camrys are basic sedans without a lot of excitement. They get you from point A to point B, but not too much thrill involved. The Honda Accord is a nice driving car, but still not overly exciting. You might think about the Mazda 6 as they are a little more sporty and have more of a driver car theme going. Also, the Fusion Sport looks pretty nice. I haven't driven it yet, but it seems more suited for excitement then the average sedan. If I was you and was on the fence, I would take a Saturday and do the circuit and cover most of the major players. Just be sure to do a thorough test drive, preferable alone, on all types of roads. Drive the car how you want to drive it, and see that it does all you want it to do.
Let us know what you choose!

I've test-driven HUNDREDS of cars, as my wife and I are car enthusiasts. The Camry rides and drives very well. It is a very comfortable car. Sporty it ISN'T, but if you are one of those individuals who are afraid of being noticed it will suit you to a "T". I would never buy a Camry new because it hurts American industry and jobs. However, there are many excellent 1 to 3 year old Camrys on used car lots that are excellent buys and DON'T destroy U.S. jobs. Those I recommend if you have to have a less reliable foreign car. Camry reliability is only average and is surpassed by many other cars, such as the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Buick LaCrosse and Hyundai Sonata.

I've still seen pre-'85 Honda's around. Plenty of them. In my area anyways.
